English

We believe that English is more than just a subject; it's the key that unlocks a world of imagination, creativity, and critical thinking. Our dedicated English department strives to inspire a lifelong love of language and literature in every student whilst also recognising the importance of our students achieving their very best in external examinations.

Our Approach:

  • Engaging and Diverse Curriculum: We offer a challenging and stimulating curriculum that explores a wide range of literary genres, from Shakespearean drama and Victorian novels to contemporary poetry and graphic novels.
  • Focus on Creativity and Confidence: We encourage students to develop their own unique voices through creative writing and drama. In Year 7 students prepare for the Lamda Public Speaking examination and in Year 9 students take the Lamda Shakespeare for Performance examination.
  • Developing Critical Thinking: We foster analytical and critical thinking skills through in-depth study of texts, lively class discussions, and engaging debates.
  • Individualised Learning: We recognise that every student learns differently. We provide personalised support and guidance to ensure that each student reaches their full potential.
  • Beyond the Classroom: We enrich the learning experience with exciting opportunities, such as author visits and trips to theatres. A particular highlight of Year 6 is our trip to the Harry Potter studios as part of the classes reading the first Harry Potter novel.

Students take the Edexcel iGCSE for English Language and English Literature and at A-Level we also offer both Literature and Language.
